Cold and More Cold

Back to regular Nebraska weather BUT not a lot of snow yet! Just cold.

Getting back into doing a little eBaying as the auctions are starting up again. Haven't gone to any out of town as have to get a Mom-sitter for that.

Talked to my daughter quite a bit last week. Her daughter is writing a 500 word essay on the Treaty of Valesco so have been listening to several versions being read over the phone.

Her four year old might be on the road to becoming a lawyer. When asked if she said a bad word, she started off with "Let me respond to that". What a hoot she is.

The Dark Side of being a Caretaker

I will not dwell on this too much but there doesn't seem to be much "out there" about this.

I dislike being my Mom's caretaker as in dot, period, end of report. I do not do this out of love but out of duty, which is a much harder task master than love.

And I AM tired of people with the standard platitudes babbling on and on. How much you will be glad you did this later on...Later on, I do not plan on thinking or dwelling on the years sucked out of my life. It is bad enough living it.

I do know attitude is a choice and my choice at this moment is one of resentment and fear. Fear I won't have the energy to do the things I still want to do.

Problems

Having some problems on my computer learning curve. Hopefully will get through this without screwing too much stuff up. Got one solved this morning BUT, not sure what I did to solve it. Just hate that ! Ha

Should not have shoveled the walk today. Brought back the shoulder problems, just damn.
Started the lists for the National DOG last night. I know, I know, it isn't til Sept. but sure gives me something to look forward to.

Talked to #3 Son yesterday. Sure hate it that he has such problems at work but that's life and politics in the work place. Ever the mother, want to go kick butt when some things happen to my kids, no matter how old they are.

Movin' Right Along

Received Quicken yesterday and have it installed and ready to go. In fact, thought I would get my bank statement today but no such luck. I was ready to rock and roll on the reconciliation...man, a sad state of affairs when balancing your check book is the most exciting thing to do on your plate.

Today recieved Turbo Tax and almost have my taxes finished. Not much to do on them now..that will change down the road if I live that long.

My daughter called and will get my mail caught up today on the last figures I need to finish my tax. Hmmmm, then what..I can't decide what to do about a Word Processing and Spreadsheet application. I can get the latest version of Appleworks that I sort of know my way around in but I really don't use all the extra stuff. I found Mariner software that will bundle a word processor and spreadsheet together for about the same price as a full Appleworks. Read some reviews of Appleworks that did not sound too good so guess will do a little more research. I don't think there are a lot of choices out there.

Nice

My daughter called a couple of times over the last two days as schools and non essential workers were home due to the bad weather and she wasn't on her usual super busy schedule. At one point, she mentioned she should be independently wealthy so she could stay home...at the end of the time, decided that wasn't such a great desire! Had to laugh at that. Of course, being home weathered in is different from being home and able to do outside fun stuff.

It is sunny and cold again. I have to make a grocery run either today or tomorrow. A chance of snow again Sat. night. I just prefer being stocked up in the winter.

Made the cabin reservations for the fourth National DOG the end of Sept. in northern Louisiana. If I have to cancel, which I would know early, they will only keep $10 of the deposit as long as you cancel 15 days ahead of your date. Now, do I register for the event this month as you get a pretty good deduction. Yeah, probably.

Sun All Day Today

Of course it is only 9 degrees..I shoveled a little snow at 6:15 a. m. to get the paper, then went out around 8 and did a little more. The wind chill was about -20. Rod showed up to do the driveway and a friend of his used the big Bobcat to do most of the driveway. That really helped him out.

Talked to my daughter and she did get her router in and running last Monday..I think tonight she will try to get her email set up.

That will be good. I think she is liking the Mac experience. Hope so. This is the 4th Mac I have had. I do not believe I could ever do a PC and like it. Karen already has mentioned some features she likes about the mac over her Dell..Maybe a convert!!

Another Saturday

Started an ice/snow event around 5:30 a.m. but quite by 7 a.m. Sure hope the big part of this misses us.

Still enjoying the new 'puter but have right shoulder arm pain which is the mouse arm...darn.

Called Amazon.com to get a pick up on the extra computer they sent. What a bummer..outsourced their customer service to India. So hard to understand them and with my hearing problem, twice as hard. We'll see what happens.

A Start

I recieved quite a surprise from UPS this morning. Not only did I get my new computer in, I got two of them. Going to make sure this one works fine before I call for a UPS pick up.

Now for the fun stuff. Trying to set up a new email account and having problems. Hate to go back to Outlook but may have to until I figure out what I am doing wrong with the Mail account that is already on this iMac.

Also need to make a quick run to the grocery store today, our weather is to go in the dumper starting tonight.

Work Around

Problems getting to Blogger getting worse. Hopefully with a new computer soon! I hope, this will go away. Finally got here using Opera. I read in the forums about all the old computers (Mac) still in use but they were able to upgrade their OS.

It has been a mild winter so far which I do appreciate. Mom's health pretty good. She sure is a tough old broad.

My new camera is going to ship out tomorrow and I should have it by Friday. Hope it gives me the service the Sony Maciva D73 did. Going from .3 to 6.1.

Day 2

Bright, clear and cold but the driveway is cleared so will make a grocery store and library run this afternoon. My new batch of coffee was delivered. Doing some decaf this time around.

Mom's knee seems better and she did not wake me up during the night in pain so that is a good sign. Hope it continues. Wish I was as tough as she is. I get tired of pain real fast. The past couple of weeks in point. May have to see if I can switch my health care plan to up here. Just hate to, though, but may have to.

2007

Happy New Year.

For more years than I care to remember, I faced a new year with hope and enthusiasm. This year is different.

Things could be so much worse.

Things could be so much better.

What I have always told my kids, finally, really, sunk in.

Life just is
