Good Ol' Cabbage

Cooked outside today. Browned country style ribs in the DO and then added wedges of green cabbage. Had minced onion, green pepper and jalapeno plus some seasonings..was tasty and kept the heat outside. Mom ate some, but not much. I have decided it is time to cook what I like and if it gets too bad, will just order Meals on Wheels for Mom.

Will take Mom in the Buick to Lincoln tomorrow as want to pick up some sausage at a specialty shop. It shares the parking lot with a Culvers so might try and have lunch there. We'll see. Or maybe put that off until Monday for something to do next week. LOl

Too Quick

Just published a title only. Just Damn..LOL

The sparkling wine was great! Think I will keep that on hand for a while. It is Cristalino NV Brut Cava from Spain. Very dry and crisp.

Took Mom to Crete this A.M. Was a quick trip as I just ran into Wally World for a couple of things. Need to go back when I can spend some time. This is the first time she's been out since two months ago to the day when she broke her arm and took a ride in the ambulance.

My nephew came out Friday night and we had a beer and a burger. Watched the reunion films and think it touched him. He said he was crashing the next reunion. So far the plans are for summer of '09.

Good Stuff!!

Speaking of the sparkly from Spain.

The Dreaded B Word

Another fun time in my "Golden Years". Bath time for Mom. The grumbles "you don't know how I hate this". (uh, yes I do, I hate it too). Getting the water temp just right. Turning the heater on when it is 80 degrees already. The squeals when it is time to wash her hair. The grips about any and every thing.

Then the look of a very frail body. Do NOT want to get that old. I go up stairs and work out with weights and/or a resistance rope. I guess that is the good thing from all of this. I DO take my calcium and work out. Of course, no weight loss yet.

The good part of today. Another shipment from Wine.com arriving. My summer stock. Finally getting to try a Spanish sparkling wine that has good reviews. I'll let you know. A couple of bottles of a white Bordeaux, Chateau Brondelie 2004 Graves. A couple of bottles of Sauvignonne Blanc. Two bottles of Veramonte 2004 Primus from Chile. The only reds in the bunch.

I have noticed a lot more screw caps on wine. Think cork is in limited supply.

The Rig

It really worked great.

Another Day

in dear old Nebraska. Back to hot weather. I did go uptown to check out an auction. Not too much I was interested in but planned to go back after fixing lunch for Mom. Went back but too late as all the items I was interested in had already been up for auction. Did not stay. Picked up root beer floats for me and Mom. Shot my diet but didn't care.

Found a trailer I like, sort of. The problem with any trailer is I do not have a place to leave it in San Antonio or Oklahoma City after I am done with all the dutch oven stuff. I think I would like one when I leave here. These are made at a local welding shop for primarily the farmers with irrigation and their need to haul over the gravel roads. I may talk to him about customizing one but it probably would be more that I want to spend. The other thing is being able to secure the items somewhat.

I set up the 7&1 smoker and the bulk propane tank so will be ready to smoke some ribs tomorrow. They have the rub on them already and are marinating in the frig.

Guess I need to make a grocery store run, just thought of something I need tomorrow.

Will post a picture of the "new" rig set up with the bulk propane tank.

A Bit about the Family Reunion

I was very pleasantly surprised. The reunion was great. Everyone had a good time, lots to eat and waaaaay to much to drink.

My ex and wife in-law showed up on one of the days and it wasn't to bad. He found new victims to monopolize and talk to, bless their hearts. Right after they arrived all the boys (sons) took off on a grocery store and booze run. Such is life.

The river in the pictures below did go down by evening and the kids got to take one last swim. Things continued on back in San Antonio for a couple of days. The Alaskan son was in Ft. Worth the last few days so I got to visit with him and his family one more evening. It was great.

Of course the bad part was heading back north. Mom is now so scared of falling that it is retarding her ability to function as before. I must change some of my attitude. Her other daughter did come for 3 whole days again because her daughter drove her out. Mom did not recognize her. That says something.

Had a great time at the family reunion. Much better than what I thought it would be like.
