Finally

met some folks from a dutch oven group I belong to. They were traveling through Nebraska (oh how I envy them) and were visiting friends in a neighboring town. It is always a little uncomfortable meeting someone for the first time but since we all had do cooking in common plus a few other things, it was very pleasant and easy going after the first few minutes.

They did a one pot meal with pork roast, chicken, sausage and many different veggies. I took rolls I had baked in the DO that morning and friends showed up with a wonderful homemade apple pie.

It was nice to say upon leaving "see you in a few weeks in Louisiana".

The Elvis Craze

I enjoyed some of his music but never went bananas over Elvis. (But don't ask about Tom Jones). Anyway have a friend who is off this weekend to do her annual Elvis weekend with friends. But, what I remember most when Elvis hit the big time was a very snotty remark by a classmate. "He can't sing and won't last a year"!

Almost

mid August - just over 6 weeks until I leave for the DOG in Louisiana. The gal that is going has her plane tickets. We are meeting up in Oklahoma City as she is the mother of my son's s.o. Her hubby's health isn't the best but he is to stay in OKC while we trundle off to La. Don't know how all this will work but should be interesting, whatever happens!

From Sept. 1 to the 9th will be dog sitting for my nephew. She a little bitty thing and really isn't too much trouble. Mom enjoys her as I did it last year. But still, just another job.

Got three bags of garbage hauled out of the basement. Only another 10 or so to go. Think the rest will do OK in a local auction.

Will keep working down there off and on until I leave. The high temperatures outside make the basement a good place to work.

Doing some DO cooking today. Mainly testing a potato recipe I am considering for the La. DOG.

Payback

Went to a benefit for a brat and a beer late this afternoon. One of the local fireman/EMS guys was injured on the 4th of July setting off the sanctioned fireworks display, and, he was in his firefighting gear. Just goes to show how dangerous some of the fireworks can be. Anyway, he will be off work for at least 3 months, hence the fund raiser. Felt I needed to go as he has shown up at the house when I have dialed 911 for Mom in the past.

Another Day on the Prairie

Blogging is hard when you are stuck in the middle of nowhere. I have to remember I started this blog to whine, gripe and vent about being here.

I use to journal in a spiral bound notebook but decided in case I would drop dead did not want my kids to find it. No Bridges of Madison County here. No notes about my love life or lack thereof to be found. Rereading some old journals before destroying them found me mostly embarrassed for a number of reasons. One of the main ones is I decided I hadn't learned a whole heck of a lot about life and love. So, instead of repeating the past once again, just decided to withdraw from the game.

The only thing I have learned for certain recently is care taking is NOT for me.
